Arsenal and Chelsea look set for a summer bidding war over the signing of Atletico Madrid’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak, Sunday Express has revealed.
The Slovenian international has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his stay in Madrid, but has reportedly requested a transfer out of the club, as he looks to further his career elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Petr Cech has enjoyed yet another disappointing season at Arsenal and Arsene Wenger has now identified the Atletico goalkeeper as his top summer target, but they will have to outbid Chelsea, who are already looking for replacements for Thibaut Courtois, as the Belgian shot-stopper recently refused to enter negotiations over a new contract extension.
However, both clubs will need to offer significant sums to secure the signing of Oblak, who allegedly has a gigantic release clause of £88 million. It’s uncertain whether Atletico would part with the player for less, since they would probably have to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible and that will not come cheap in the current market.
