Barcelona center-back Samuel Umtiti appears to be at the exit door at Camp Nou, after refusing to adjust his wage demands in the most recent round of talks with the Barcelona boardroom, according to Diario Gol.
The French defender has enjoyed a stellar campaign with Barcelona, as he established himself as a vital part of what is perhaps the best defensive unit in club football at the moment.
Nevertheless, Umtiti has been in the process of contract negotiations with Barcelona for quite some time and the talks do not seem to progressing, as the center-back demands a pay rise that would reflect his growing role in the team. Simply put, Umtiti feels he is worth far more than what he is being offered at the moment and Barcelona do not seem to agree.
This means that the two sides have been at a contract impasse for months now and a breakthrough in future contract negotiations appears to be highly unlikely, as Umtiti grows ever more disappointed with the Barcelona stance towards him.
Earlier in the year, Umtiti refused to rule out a move to Manchester United, as he fell silent when asked about the rumors of his potential switch to Old Trafford, Goal has revealed, reporting on an interview the player did with TF1.
Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could be willing to offer Umtiti everything that he wants, as he is desperately looking for defensive improvements. The Special One will allegedly push to sign either Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane or Barcelona’s Umtiti in the summer, regardless of their price.
However, it remains uncertain whether Mourinho would prefer Umtiti or Varane, but that may not be particularly important to him in the end, since both players would represent significant squad reinforcements.
What do you think? Should Umtiti leave Barcelona?
