According to Evening Standard, Manchester United are set to sign the Tottenham Hotspur center-back Toby Alderweireld in a deal worth at least £40 million, while Spurs prepare to make their move for Ajax youngster Matthijs De Ligt.
Tottenham have failed to persuade Alderweireld to extend his contract, which ends next year, and decided to cash in on the player rather than wait for his contract to run out, as they look to reinvest the transfer fee that they receive for the Belgian international.
It is uncertain how much money Spurs will be able to get for their player, but considering the fact that Alderweireld is an in-demand center-back, with Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester United all interested, the fee will likely be in the region of £40 million.
If necessary, United are prepared to offer even more than £40 million to secure his signing, which puts them in the pole position to sign Alderweireld.
Meanwhile, Tottenham will look to reinvest the entire fee that they receive in order to sign the talented Ajax center-back Matthijs De Ligt, who recently handed in a transfer request at his club, as he seeks a move away from the Eredivisie. The Dutch youngster looks set to reunite with Davinson Sanchez, who joined Tottenham from Ajax last year.
