Liverpool have inquired about the former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, who would be available on a free transfer, according to Daniel Thompson, a former Liverpool player and now pundit.
Yaya Toure achieved the status of a Manchester City legend during his stay in the Premier League, but the arrival of Pep Guardiola turned him into a bit-part player in the last two years.
Unhappy with his status, Toure refused to extend his contract and will now become a free agent in the summer, as he ponders his next move.
Liverpool see Toure as a valuable player that could be used in squad rotation, as well as to replace the outgoing Emre Can, but it remains uncertain whether Toure would be ready to join a rival club or settle for another squad role at Anfield.
Nevertheless, Liverpool are hopeful of signing the Ivory Coast international, as they feel their excellent relationship with Yaya’s brother Kolo Toure, who spent several years with the Reds at the end of his career, could help convince Yaya to join them.
